People
of all ages use food stamps. So do families, people living
alone, and people living with roommates. People who are
homeless can get food stamps, too.
People who are working or have other regular income, such
as Social Security or a pension, can often get food stamps.
You do not need to be receiving TAFDC
(cash welfare) or to be out of work in order to get
them.
If you are applying for food stamps, the amount of benefits
you receive will depend upon the number and ages of people
in your household.
The Food Stamp Program also looks at both your household’s
income AND expenses when deciding if your household can
get food stamps. These charts will help you to decide whether
you should find out more about applying.
It is probably worth it for you to apply if . . .
- you are a U.S. citizen or your children are U.S. citizens
OR
- you are an immigrant with legal status and have lived
in the U.S. for 5 or more years OR
- you are an immigrant with legal status and are disabled
AND
- your children are citizens or immigrants with legal
status
- you do not have a lot of money in the bank or in other
kinds of accounts
- your income is equal to or less than the values in one
of the charts below
